Northside Youth and Senior Service Center recently celebrated a powerful milestone: the groundbreaking for Phase One of our new Northside Intergenerational Community Center in The Ville.
This moment was made possible because of the faith, generosity, and commitment of our donors, funders, board members, staff, volunteers, public partners, community leaders, neighbors, seniors, youth, families, and longtime supporters. To everyone who has given, advocated, attended meetings, opened doors, shared encouragement, or helped carry this vision forward: thank you.
Phase One is an important beginning. It marks real progress toward a larger vision, but it is not the finish line. The full promise of this project depends on continued support as Northside moves toward Phase Two and the completion of a new center designed to serve youth, seniors, adults with disabilities, families, and the broader North St. Louis community.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Executive Director Leon Threat reminded those gathered that this project is about far more than construction:
“We break ground not just for a building. We break ground for hope. We break ground for dignity. We break ground for opportunity.”
That message reflects the heart of Northside’s work. For more than 50 years, Northside has provided meals, transportation, case management, youth programming, senior activities, emergency response, and community support. The new Intergenerational Community Center will help expand that work in a space built for connection, dignity, safety, opportunity, and service across generations.
Leon also gave supporters a charge:
“Tell somebody what happened here. Keep this project in your heart. Bring someone else back to see the good news of what is rising here.”
That charge now belongs to all of us.
We ask every stakeholder, donor, partner, neighbor, and friend of Northside to stay engaged. Share the news. Invite others to learn about the project. Connect Northside with people, businesses, churches, foundations, and institutions that believe in investing in North St. Louis. Continue giving, advocating, volunteering, and helping us move from Phase One into Phase Two.
We are grateful to the local media outlets that helped tell the story of this milestone:

Phase One has begun. Now we must keep building. With continued community support, Phase Two can carry this vision forward and help complete a center worthy of the seniors, youth, families, and neighbors Northside has served for generations.
Northside has been here for St. Louis. Together, we are building what comes next.
