Summer at Northside Youth and Senior Service Center has officially begun, and our building is already filled with the kind of energy that reminds us why this work matters.
Our free neighborhood summer camp is more than a place for children to spend the day. It is a safe, structured, and welcoming space where young people can explore, learn, build friendships, and see new possibilities for themselves. Designed for youth ages 7 to 15, Northside’s summer camp offers six weeks of fun and learning at no cost to families, helping ensure that children have access to positive activities, caring adults, nutritious meals, and meaningful experiences throughout the summer.
Before the first camper arrived, our team came together for staff orientation with a shared focus: creating a summer that is safe, joyful, organized, and full of opportunity. New staff members were welcomed into Northside’s mission and reminded that summer camp is not just about supervision. It is about relationship-building. It is about encouragement. It is about helping every child feel seen, supported, and capable of doing more than they may have imagined.
This summer, our youth will become explorers.
They will visit new places. They will try new activities. They will learn new skills. They will step outside of familiar routines and discover more of what St. Louis has to offer. Through field trips, recreation, creative activities, fitness, computer instruction, swimming, outdoor games, and enrichment opportunities, campers will have the chance to grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
For many families, summer can bring real challenges. When school is out, children need safe spaces, healthy meals, positive guidance, and opportunities to stay active and engaged. Northside’s summer camp helps meet that need by providing a consistent environment where youth can continue learning, enjoy nutritious meals and snacks, and spend their days surrounded by adults who care about their future.
But our goal is bigger than keeping children busy.
We want our campers to dream bigger dreams.
Every activity, every field trip, every conversation, and every moment of encouragement is an opportunity to help young people imagine new futures for themselves. When a child visits a new place, they begin to understand that the world is larger than their block. When they learn a new skill, they begin to believe they can master more. When they are surrounded by caring staff and positive peers, they begin to see themselves as leaders, creators, problem-solvers, and future changemakers.
That is the heart of Northside’s summer camp.
We are proud to open our doors once again to children and families across St. Louis and the surrounding area. We are grateful for the staff, volunteers, families, and community partners who make this work possible. Most of all, we are excited for the youth who will fill this summer with laughter, learning, discovery, and growth.
